Awards Procedures

Purpose of Awards Committee:

The purpose of the DWCF Awards Committee is to honor our Democratic Women, earn the DWCF well-deserved publicity, increase annual participation, and support the National Federation of Democratic Women in their Awards Process.

    • Awards for Consideration:
      • DWCF Awards will be as follows and are based, in part, on NFDW awards (see *). Those awardees aligned with NFDW awards may be submitted to NFDW for national award recognition. Please note differentiation between Annual Awards and non-annual awards.

        • Life Membership Award (Annual Award, Plaque)
        • Honorary Membership Award (Annual Award, Plaque)
        • Local Club Rising Star Award (Certificate signed by President)
        • Member Rising Star Award (Certificate signed by President)
        • Region Growth Award (Certificate signed by President)
        • Club Growth Award (Certificate signed by President)
        • Democrat of the Year Award
    • How to Apply:

    • Applications Due By: May 31, 2017
    • Awards Selection Process:
      • Awards Committee will solicit electronic and paper nominations for above awards through email blasts, DWCF website, and contact with Region Chairs with application form attached.
      • Awards Committee will meet no later than two weeks after submitted nominations to vote on the nominations received.
      • DWCF sitting President cannot be nominated or awarded a by the DWCF Awards Committee.
      • Awards Committee will present nominations to the State Board of Directors (BOD) at the next BOD meeting, no later than July, before the scheduled convention.
      • DWCF BOD will vote on approval of the awardees at the meeting the awards are presented to the BOD by the Awards Chair.
      • Awards Chair will notify awardee immediately, via phone, when the BOD approves the Awardee. Awards Chair will follow up the phone call with an official letter, on DWCF letterhead, notifying the awardee of the award.
  • Communications Chair will submit a press release on the awardees. Awardees’ bios/photos on in convention booklet. Awards Chair will work with Convention Chair to provide awardees’ photos and bios.
  • Accommodations:
    • Hotel Accommodations and Transportation Subsidies are reserved for non-members who otherwise would not attend convention but were awarded Humanitarian or Honorary Membership Award. Accommodations will be discussed on an individual basis with Awardees.

Guidelines and Criteria for Nominations and Selection

Below are the criteria for the awards that allow the awardee to be nominated for DWCF recognition:

    • In submitting the supporting information for a nominee, follow the criteria which is the basis for evaluating nominees for the Awards.
    • Present supportive material as numbered exhibits with the letter of nomination.
    • The awardee must be present at the Convention to receive the award.

Clubs are requested to limit nominations to one per category.

*DWCF Outstanding Member of the Year Award (Annual Award, Plaque)

  • Current active member of the DWCF who personifies DWCF objectives (see bylaws)
  • Contribution by the nominee to the growth, development and promotion of DWCF
  • State scope and stature of the nominee
  • Personal political involvement by the nominee

*DWCF Humanitarian Award (Annual Award, Plaque)

  • Significant contribution to the cause of human and/or civil rights.
  • Demonstrated support of the DWCF
  • Nominee possesses leadership qualities
  • Nominee’s success in achieving human and /or civil rights.
  • Nominee does not have to be a DWCF member.

Life Membership Award (Annual Award, Plaque)

  • Life Membership may be bestowed upon any member of the DWCF, Inc. in good standing, who by virtue of statewide leadership and capability has proven dedication to the principles and aims of the DWCF, Inc.
  • They shall have voting rights and can be counted with the membership used as a basis for computation of delegates to the State Convention.
  • Life members can be bestowed at the County and State levels of DWCF, Inc.
  • The local clubs are Responsible for paying State and Regional dues for Life Members.

Honorary Membership Award (Annual Award, Plaque)

  • Honorary Membership may be bestowed upon any Democrat for distinguished, extraordinary or any other unusual or meritorious service or attainment given in the service of the community, state and nation.
  • An Honorary Member does not have to be a current DWCF member.
  • Honorary Members have no voting rights, cannot serve as an officer and may not be counted with the membership used as a basis for computation of delegates to the State Convention.
  • Honorary members can be bestowed at the County and State levels of DWCF, Inc.
  • No dues are paid for Honorary Members

Local Club Rising Star Award (Certificate signed by President)

  • May be more than one awardee, statewide
  • For new or newly rejuvenated Clubs
  • High growth in membership over past year until the end of June
  • Demonstrated active membership/impact in community

Member Rising Star Award (Certificate signed by President)

  • May be more than one awardee, statewide
  • Only one nominee permitted per a club
  • Member who demonstrated significant positive impact to club activities
  • Member who demonstrated significant leadership capabilities that may be applied to future success of individual, club, and DWCF, Inc.

Region Growth Award (Certificate signed by President)

  • Measured by number of clubs started over the past year within a region, until the end of June
  • Regions may nominate selves, however consultation with Membership Chair or 2nd Vice President can be made to ensure accurate account of growth.

Club Growth Award (Certificate signed by President)

  • Measured by increase in percentage of members from June 30 of previous year to June 30 of current year as verified by the DWCF 2nd VP or Membership Chair.
  • Club must be a chartered club more than 13 months from the current June 30th deadline.

Democrat of the Year Award(Certificate signed by President)

  • Presented to the person who has given outstanding service and commitment to the Democratic Party over the past year.
  • The recipient of this award has made a significant contribution to enhance the strength and vitality of the Democratic Party through general volunteer activity, helping to build the precinct organization, organizing Party events, exceptional fundraising success, or involvement in successful General Election activity.
